SALTIRE FOR SCHOOLS PROJECT

Participation in sporting activities can have a profoundly positive effect on children. It encourages team building and motivation, builds on confidence, aids a healthy lifestyle and sporting and interpersonal skills which gives an enjoyment extending far beyond the playing field, court, pool or pitch.

Keen to utilise this influence for the benefit of local children, particularly those from the city’s deprived areas, Saltire Energy launched Saltire for Schools in 2008 with the backing of Aberdeen Sports Village (ASV) and the University of Aberdeen.

The initiative gives children a chance to escape their usual, often restrictive, routines and participate in sports they may not otherwise have been exposed to including; athletics, dance, football, basketball, badminton, swimming, table tennis, hockey and gymnastics.

To date, the scheme has provided hundreds of thousands of opportunities for children and, as part of the company’s on-going commitment to social responsibility and community initiatives, funding for the programme has been pledged until 2018.
